Our TeachersJune Hershberger - I have been director at DSECC since 2007. I have a husband and three grown children. Our family has lived in Nicaragua, New York, Tanzania, Iowa, and now, Pennsylvania! I have a BA in Family Studies/Human Development and an MA in TESOL. I enjoy reading, walking, family time and traveling. At DSECC it has been great getting to know families and I always enjoy visiting the classrooms every morning to see what the children are learning and doing. I love striving for excellence in all we do here at DSECC. It's great to have a job where I know we are making a difference in children's lives each day.Cathy Stephens - Cathy is the assistant director at DSECC. She holds a BS from Millersville University. She also holds a Directors Certificate. She has been an Elementary school teacher and has worked at DSECC since 1992. Cathy enjoys knitting, reading, and spending time with family. She is married with 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Her favorite activity to do with children is to read to them. Ms. Pam - Ms. Pam is the administrative assistant. She earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in August 2008. She has worked at DSECC since 2001 and previously was the lead teacher in the school age program. In her spare time, Pam enjoys camping with her family - especially sitting around the campfire - and relaxing with a good book. She is married and has three children. Pam's favorite activity to do with children is to allow them to explore things that interest them. Ms.Kelly S - Kelly is the lead teacher in the Warbler Room (infants). She earned her Child Development Associate Certificate and started classes at HACC for her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2008. She has been working as a nanny for seven years and has worked at DSECC since 2006. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys sewing, scrapbooking, playing volleyball and spending time with her friends. Kelly's favorite activity to do with the infants is blowing bubbles! Ms. Ruthie - Ruthie is a regular substitute in the Warbler room. She began working at DSECC in 2008. She enjoys reading, camping, motorcycling with her husband, playing with her granddaughters and taking walks. Her favorite things to do with the infants are reading to them, taking them outside for walks on a nice day, feeding them, watching them learn new skills, and hearing their first words. Ms. Amy - Amy is the lead teacher in the Bluebird Room (young toddler). She graduated from Cocalico High School and the Childcare program at Lancaster County Career and Technology Center. In 2006, she earned her Child Development Associate Credential. She is currently attending HACC, working towards her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1997, Amy began caring for children at DSECC. She has worked with infants through kindergartners in various settings, however, the majority of her experience has been caring for young toddlers. She has also enjoyed caring for children with developmental delays and hopes to someday further her education in that field of Early Childhood. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her husband and son. Her favorite activity to do with children is to let them paint outside in just their diapers so then can get really "involved" with the paint. Ms. Deb - Deb is the lead teacher in the Robin Room (2-3 year olds). She has her high school diploma, is a licensed cosmetologist, and is currently working towards her Associates Degree. In the past, she has volunteered with her church's Christian Education Program and has worked at DSECC since 2002. In her spare time, Deb enjoys her grandchildren, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She is married and has two grown sons, two daughters-in-law, one grandson, twin granddaughters on the way, and two dogs. Her favorite activities to do with children are to read and converse with them, garden, and creative activities.. Ms. Joanne - Joanne is an assistant teacher in the Robin Room (2-3 year olds). She was born and raised in Ephrata. She has experience as an aide for the Ephrata School District and has worked at Diamond Street for 19 years. In her free time, Joanne enjoys crocheting and doing crafts. Joanne has 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her favorite activities to do with children include reading books, puzzles, and playing with playdough. Ms. Kelly - Kelly is the lead teacher in the Hummingbird Room (3-4 year olds). She has her associates degree in Early Childhood Education and has worked at DSECC since 2004. She enjoys reading, drawing, and writing. She also likes to watch her son's sporting events. She loves the joy and zest for life that the children have. She enjoys talking and laughing with them and reading to them. Ms. Suzy - Suzy is the assistant teacher in the Hummingbird Room (3-4 year olds). She grew up in Japan and moved to Lancaster in 2004. She graduated from college in Japan and now attends HACC. She has some experience working with children in Japan, and has worked as a teacher's assistant since at DSECC since 2007. Suzy is married to her husband, Hector. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and going out to eat. Her favorite activities to do with children include science, art and playing outside. Ms. Dede - Dede is the lead teacher in the Oriole room. (Pre-K). She graduated from Alvernia College in 1997 with a BA in Elementary Education. She is also PA certified in Early Childhood Education. Her teaching experiences include teaching preschool for two years and substitute teaching in the Ephrata Area School District. She began working at DSECC in 2002 and taught in the Hummingbird room for two years before becoming the Kindergarten teacher in 2005. In her free time, Dede enjoys scrapbooking, reading, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She is married and has two young children. Her family also includes four pet birds. Her favorite activities to do with children include hatching chicken eggs, looking for leprechauns, playing water games, and singing silly ABC phonics songs. Ms. Amanda - Amanda is the lead teacher in Preschool program. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with an Associates Degree in Education and is finishing her Bachelor's of Science this fall. She has worked full time at Diamond Street for over two years. Over the years, she has worked with all ages of children . She has worked at four different centers that ranged from rural to city. She enjoys working most with 4 and 5 year olds because she loves to hear their stories and enjoys their zest for life. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys spending time with family. She also loves traveling to new places and exploring new cultures. Ms. Sue - Sue is the center nutritionist and chef extraordinare. She is also the Spanish teacher. Sue holds her BS from Eastern Mennonite University in Community Nutrition. She has experience with children through raising her daughters, babysitting, and teaching Spanish. In her free time, Sue enjoys reading, walking, singing, baking, being with her friends, and enjoying nature. In her family are her husband, Ed, and her daughters, Alma and Laura. Her favorite activity to do with kids is reading or singing with them. Ms. Pat - Pat is an assistant teacher in many of the different classrooms. Pat attended Elizabethtown Area High School and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite. She holds her BS in Music Education from Millersville University. Pat taught elementary and middle school music for 15 years. She also teaches piano lessons, privately. She currently is the director of musical activities at Akron Mennonite Church. Pat's hobbies include reading and making a variety of jams and pickles. In her family are her husband John (whom she's been married to for 30 years). She also has two kids: a daughter, Christina (who attends University of Pittsburgh) and a son, Kenton (who attends Penn State, University Park). Pat's favorite activity to do with children is a board game, Tall Bird, Short Bird. Ms. Dolly - Dolly is a substitute in many of the classrooms. She has her nurse technician degree and her Child Development Associates credential. Dolly has worked at DSECC with all ages since 2009. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and cooking. Dolly is married with five children and two grandchildren. Her favorite activity to do with children is to play outside. Ms.Greta - Greta is a substitute in many of the rooms but mainly works in the Robin room. She has worked at DSECC since 2009. She is currently a student at Millersville University. Greta enjoys playing tennis, making flower arrangements, thrift store shopping, spending time with friends and family and photography. She also volunteers as a teacher's aid for the ESL class at Ephrata High School. Her favorite activities to do with children are playing with them on the playground, reading books to them, and rocking and singing to the babies. |
